Hi, my name’s Nikki, I’m 25 years old, about to complete an MSc in Information Technology at UWE. I’m on target for a Merit/Distinction. I currently have two part time work positions alongside my MSc as well, both in customer facing roles.
I work both on Windows and Mac however am more confident with Windows. The main development software I have used are Visual Studio, Netbeans and Xamarin Studio.

The modules I studied on my MSc in Information Technology were:

Digital Design and Development – (HTML, CSS, Javascript and Angular2)
Information Security
Professionalism and Governance
Project Management – (Confident with agile project management)
Group Software Development – (Java)
Linked Open Data and the Internet of Things – (Python, C, Turtle, SPARQL)
Data Management – (XML, SQL, MYSQL)
Dissertation – (Final project to be completed in Unity and C#)

For my dissertation I am focusing my study on educational video games for second language acquisition. For this I’m studying the works of James Paul Gee who strongly argues for the use of video games in education, researching the history of educational literacy based video games, what were and weren’t successful and why and in turn proposing my own prototype of a game to be developed using C# following a framework which will hopefully aid users looking to learn a second language. Therefore my main learning in C# has mostly been game tutorial related.

My most confident areas of programming are HTML, C# and Java as these are the ones I’ve invested the most time into and I’m keen to develop my grounding in these languages to be able to explore the potential software development has to offer.

As for the rest of me, I’m passionate about video games and music. I own a range of consoles including: Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Playstation 1, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, Wii, GameCube, 3DS, DS Lite, Gameboy Advance, Xbox 360, Sega Megadrive and a PC. In my spare time I’ve been working towards building my skillset to hopefully make games as a hobby. Therefore I’ve been investing time into art, music production and exploring different programming languages.

I produce music on Soundcloud, and am recently listed as a freelancer for video game soundtracks. I am also attending weekly guitar lessons to take my music further. I’ve received over 10,600 total Soundcloud plays in my first two years.

My favourite thing in life is pushing myself to learn new skills wherever possible and I hope this shows through the variety of hobbies I have.
